Sammie Strausbaugh named A-Sun Player of the Week
Freshman outside hitter Sammie Strausbaugh led the JU volleyball team to three straight wins to be named A-Sun Player of the Week by the league office.

The Dover, Pa., native posted 56 kills and 21 digs in 12 sets to help Dolphins (7-20, 5-9 A-Sun) stay alive for a conference tournament berth.

Strausbaugh opened with 13 kills, four digs and two blocks against Stetson (10/23). She recorded 20 kills, eight digs and four blocks in a must-win match at Mercer (10/26). She finishing the week tying a season high with 23 kills at Kennesaw State. Strausbaugh also managed nine digs and two blocks against the Owls. She has hit double-digit kills in seven of the last nine A-Sun matches, including five in a row.

“This is a well-deserved award,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “Sammie has been playing a very important role in our team and has stepped up to the challenge as a freshman. She is a great teammate, a hard-worker and most importantly a great person. I am happy for her and this accomplishment reflects on how hard our team has worked to get better.”

Strausbaugh is the first Dolphin to earn the honor since Aiden Yeager secured the accolade in 2010.

The Dolphins will face A-Sun leader Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday in Fort, Myers, Fla., at 7 p.m.
