Sand Volleyball Duos Win Fiesta at Siesta Key Divisions
Dolphins set to host A-Sun Championship this weekend April 20-21
 
SIESTA KEY, Fla. – Jacksonville’s sand volleyball team closed out the regular season with a strong showing at the Fiesta at Siesta Key this past week. The Dolphins now look forward to hosting the Atlantic Sun Tournament this weekend April 20-21 at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Courts on the JU Campus.

The Dolphins No. 1 pair of Taylor Nyquist (Colleyville, Texas) and Sammie Strausbaugh (Dover, Pa.) and the No. 2 pair of Kendall Courtney (Houston, Texas) and Niatha Cullen (Chana, Ill.) each won their respective division tournaments by posting four consecutive victories in bracket play on Sunday.

Nyquist and Strausbaugh rolled through the Gold division winning the first three matches 2-0 before topping Tetiana Sukach and Zuzana Markova of Louisiana at Monroe in three sets to win the title. The Dolphins’ pair also claimed a 3-0 record in pool play on Sunday to run their overall season record to 25-3 this year.

Courtney and Cullen won their first two matches in straight sets then defeated Emily Podschweit and Tina Toghiyani of Florida International in the semi-finals and Amy Grabiec and Michelle McNamee of Louisiana at Monroe in the championship of the Silver Division.

JU will be the No. 3 seed in the A-Sun Tournament and play the No. 2 seed Stetson in the first round on Saturday.
