Lynch Recognized For Positive Impact In the Community & On The Field
The Fred Mitchell Award recognizes 26 place-kickers for their excellence on the football field and in the community during the month of September
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville University’s senior kicker Dylan Lynch is having a notable season and its not just for his work on the field. The senior place kicker/punter was recently recognized by The Fred Mitchell Award for excellence on the football field and in the community during the month of September.
Lynch is one of only 10 Football Championship Series place-kickers and one of only 26 place-kickers nationwide in the collegiate division (FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA) to be honored.
The recipient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in mid-December based on performance on the field and in the community. Details are provided at www.fredmitchellaward.com.
Off the field the Jacksonville, Fla. product spent five weeks this summer working a camp in Ocala, Fla. run by the Young Life Christian Association for middle school high school and special needs children. Lynch also volunteered at a Lifeguards Without Borders Water Safety Camp run by the American Red Cross and the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville. The event that taught ocean safety and how to surf for at risk children from the Community Connections Summer Camp.
Lynch has had just as much of an impact on the field where he leads the Pioneer Football League and ranks 24th in the nation with 9.3 points per game (56 total points). He is the fourth highest scoring kicker in the nation havin connected on 9-13 field goals and a perfect 29-29 extra points.
Already this season he became the all-time leader in field goals made at JU. In addition he has set school records for single game kick scoring, consecutive made extra points and longest punt. Lynch was named the Sports Network National Special Teams Player of the Week on September 23 and the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season on September 22 and September 29.
