Milne Field Construction Update: Let there be light!

Let there be light! The first significant physical structure of the new D.B. Milne Field project went up this week as two 105-ft light towers were installed on the east side. Next week the light poles on the west side are scheduled for installation and once complete will allow the JU athletic teams to compete and practice away from the heat of the Florida sun.

The foundation for the concession, restroom and fan shop facility is also starting to take shape. The building will be located just inside the main ticket gate on the south end of the field.

Progess on the project continues everyday and once completed will consist of a 2,500 seat grandstand, a state-of-the-art press box building along with new concessions and restroom facilities. Lights and a new scoreboard are also part of the enhancements.

The project was funded in total by private donations. The feasibility study was done by renowned architect Fred Krenson of Rosser International and refined by McMillan Pazden Smith and Glen Dasher. The contractor is Perry McCall.

Completion of the project is expected for the fall of 2014 before the football home opener on Sept. 13 against San Diego.
