Men’s Soccer Stunned by Lipscomb
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite a great fight, the Jacksonville University men’s soccer team were unable to generate offense in their first Atlantic Sun match of the season and fell to Lipscomb by a score of 4-1 on Friday night. With the loss, the Dolphins drop to 2-6-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Bisons were the first to strike in the contest, using a header from junior Luke Gearin in the fifth minute to go ahead, 1-0.

Senior midfielder Guilerme Brandao nearly tied the game for the Dolphins on a great ball that hit the cross bar, but it was quickly scooped by Lipscomb’s freshman goalkeeper Micah Bledsoe for a save.

With 30:25 on the clock, the Bisons doubled their lead on a 30-yard shot from junior Omar Djabi and entered the half up by a pair of goals.

Pushing the lead to 3-0 in the middle of the second frame, the Dolphins responded with a goal of their own in the 74th minute. Junior Matheus Saroli returned to JU’s lineup, after being placed on the shelf due to injury, and netted the team’s first goal of the match. The forward found his way into the box and placed the ball in the center of the net for the lone JU score.

Djabi closed the door for the Bisons with his second goal of the game, giving the team a 4-1 win and improving  them to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-1-0 in the Atlantic Sun.

Taking quality shots, JU had six different players with at least one shot on goal. Brandao led the team with five shots with two of them resulting in saves.

The Fins continue their Atlantic Sun road trip on Sunday, Oct. 13 when they head to Macon for a showdown against Mercer University at 6 p.m.
