Mauricio Ruiz Named Men’s Soccer Coach
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University Department of Athletics will hold a press conference in the main lobby of Swisher Gymnasium on Thursday at 12 p.m. to announce the hiring of Mauricio Ruiz as the Dolphins’ head men’s soccer coach.
Ruiz joins JU after spending the last six seasons with Central Florida where he assisted in developing the Knights into one of the top programs in the nation. Under his recruiting and coaching efforts, UCF advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2010 after a five-year absence and has been a fixture in national rankings since then. In 2011, the team made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and was ranked as high as No. 6 nationally during the campaign. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2012 season and filled that role for the past two seasons at UCF.
He has also been instrumental in helping his players make their way to the pros. Under his direction, Deshorn Brown, Kevan George, Warren Creavalle and Sean Johnson have been selected in the MLS SuperDraft.
Ruiz, who works with Orlando City Youth Soccer as a staff coach, will be the 11th coach in the 56-year history of Jacksonville men’s soccer.
Jacksonville students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to attend.
