JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Though the Jacksonville University women’s basketball team has officially tipped off the 2013-14 season, the squad  will host Edward Waters in an exhibition matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 20 in Swisher Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

The friendly game will allow the Fins to iron out the kinks before their home-opener against Georgia Southern next Sunday, Oct. 24.

Wednesday’s meeting with EWC will not factor into JU’s overall record but after two road games the team is excited to play in front of their home crowd.

“We are excited to play at home in front of our fans,” said Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. “We are asking everybody to come out and support. We look forward to displaying our style of basketball - hard-nosed defense and fast-paced offense.”

Looking to capture their first win of the season, the Dolphins are coming off of a gut-wrenching defeat to South Florida last week. With three players scoring in double-digits, the Bulls held a scoring advantage for a majority of the 40 minutes and cruised to an 82-53 win.

A highlight for Jacksonville was the play of freshman guard Sherranda Reddick who again led all scorers. She dropped 20 points against USF, making 9-of-10 free throws and draining 3-of-6 from beyond the arc in 24 minutes of action. She also contributed four steals, three rebounds, and a block.

Edward Waters College (2-3) is a member of the NAIA and the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Lady Tigers last played North Florida and in the 76-55 loss to the Ospreys, junior forward Amber Antoine led the team with 13 points and five rebounds, sophomore guard Chelsey Ruise had 12 points and junior forward Natasha Ballard finished with 10 points.

For those not able to join the Fins at Swisher, the game will be broadcasted on A-Sun.Tv for free.
