THE OPPONENTS: MINI SCOUTING REPORT
Texas Tech enters the tournament on a 65-56 loss to Arizona last Sunday. Currently sitting at 4-4 on the season, home court advantage may prove beneficial to the Red Raiders as they boast a 4-1 record at the United Spirit Arena. Averaging 66.8 points per game, junior guard Amber Battle and redshirt-freshman guard Minta Spears account for nearly half the team’s points.
Of all the opponents in the tourney, Abilene Christian posts the most wins with a 7-4 record. However, like the Red Raiders most of the Wildcats victories have occurred at home with all four of their losses taking place on the road. ACU drives a high scoring offense, averaging 79.0 points per game, which is 13 points more than what its opposition scores. Four Wildcats average in double-figures, led by sophomore guard Whitney West and senior forward Reneta Marquez who pour in around 13 points per game.
The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team crafted a 21-2 run over the final seven minutes of overtime to down UCF 82-69 in double overtime last Friday night. In the win, the Owls (6-2) have extended their winning streak to six games. FAU also has four players averaging in double-digits and are led by senior forward Chenise Miller who knocks in 13.3 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game.
