Pierre wraps NCAA Cross Country Championships
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- JU women’s cross country senior Joane Pierre closed out the season with a strong effort at the NCAA Championships Saturday.
Pierre posted a time of 20:39.8 in her final cross country race to place 84th out of 253 runners.
“I think Joane showed a lot of competitiveness today,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “She got out strongly and ran well. She is a pioneer for our cross country program and JU will forever be grateful. I hope this gives her great confidence as she moves into the track season.”
The Immokalee, Fla., native wraps her cross country career as the JU program record holder in the 5K (17:17.5) and 6K (20:22.1) times. She also helped the Dolphins win their first A-Sun team title in 2009 and earned the program’s first individual conference title this season. Pierre earned all-conference team honors all four seasons, including first-team accolades three times.
Pierre will start competing with the JU indoor track & field team when they open the season Jan. 17 at the Gator Invitational.
