Women’s Golf Off to North Carolina for UNC-Greensboro Starmount Forest Tournament
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women’s golf team returns to the Starmount Forest Country Club for the second year in a row beginning Monday, looking to improve on last year’s 12th place finish at the UNC-Greensboro Starmount Forest Tournament. Jessica Welch paced the Dolphins last year with three consecutive rounds of 74 to finish +9 and in 16th place.
The tournament will begin on Monday morning at 8:45 a.m., and the golfers will play 36 holes on the opening day. Tuesday’s final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Welch leads the JU contingent along with Morgan Matchett, Christina Paulsen, Sabrina Rumbaugh and Natalie Schmett.
The Starmount Forest Country Club is located on the west side of Greensboro and was founded in 1930. The PGA Tour stop now known as the Wyndham Championship was started as the Greater Greensboro Open in 1938 and held at Starmount Forest, where it was won by a 24-year old Sam Snead. The course later hosted the 1947 U.S. Women’s Open and is now home to a number of USGA events.
Among the teams that Jacksonville will be competing against is a Top 25 Clemson squad. Chattanooga and Campbell also join the field and are ranked in the Top 50 according to Golfstat. Atlantic Sun rivals UNF and Stetson will be present as well.
Full recaps will be available after each day of the tournament. Following the Starmount Forest Tournament, the Dolphins return home to host this year’s JU Classic at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach on Oct. 14-15.
