Women’s Golf Struggles on Day One of FIU Pat Bradley Invitational
SARASOTA, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women’s golf team stumbled out of the blocks in Sunday’s first round of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. Jessica Welch and Carlie Gehlhausen provided the Dolphins with the team’s best scores – a pair of 78s – to lead the charge.

Welch ended her first round with matching 39s on both the front and back nines of the Cypress Links course at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. Gehlhausen opened with a 38 but wrapped up with a 40 on the back nine.

Natalie Schmett and Francesca Yong each had a 79 on Sunday for the other JU scores on the afternoon. Morgan Matchett ended her first round with a score of 81.

In a tie for 14th place overall with Bradley at 314, Jacksonville has plenty of time to make up ground on the field. The Dolphins are just four strokes back of Western Illinois and five back of Drake.

FIU – the host school for this event – registered a 287 on Sunday to lead by four strokes over Maryland. The tournament resumes tomorrow morning with 18 more holes before finishing up on Tuesday.
