Women’s Golf Tees Up at Atlantic Sun Championship
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second year running, Jacksonville University will play host to the Atlantic Sun Women’s Golf Championship at Pine Lakes Golf Course on Jekyll Island in Georgia. This year’s 54-hole event runs from April 14-16 with tee times beginning each day at 8 a.m.
Though Jacksonville has competed against multiple A-Sun programs throughout the season, this event will finally bring all 10 teams together to decide the conference champion and send at least one team onto the NCAA Regionals. Last year, East Tennessee State edged out Kennesaw State by six strokes and advanced to the NCAA East Regional where the team finished with a 17th place showing.
The latest Golfstat rankings would show ETSU as a possible favorite at this year’s event as well. The Buccaneers are rated 45th nationally in the latest update, with Mercer (60th) and Kennesaw State (78th) also in the top 100. Jacksonville enters the weekend as the fifth-highest rated A-Sun program according to Golfstat.
For the fifth tournament in a row, the Dolphins will trot out the lineup of Jessica Welch, Natalie Schmett, Sabrina Rumbaugh, Morgan Matchett and Megan Collins. Those five have combined for a tournament title at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational, as well as a fourth-place finish at the Pinehurst Invitational. Welch will try to replicate the success she had at last year’s conference championship, where she earned Second Team All-Atlantic Sun honors after finishing in a tie for fourth place as an individual.
“We've had a good second half of the spring season and we are looking forward to the A-Sun Championship,” Head Coach Jen Borocz said. “We got off to a good start in all three rounds of the Web.com Intercollegiate and failed to finish each round. If we finish each round, we will put ourselves in a good position to win the Championship.”
Updates after each round will be available on JUDolphins.com.
