Morgan Derner surpassed 200 career points on Saturday, as the Dolphins raced
out to a 6-0 lead and came away with a 24-8 victory in DeLand.
– Another Atlantic Sun game gave the Jacksonville University
women’s lacrosse team another opportunity to flex its offensive muscle on
Saturday. This time the opponent was Stetson, and the Dolphins (9-5) netted six
goals inside the opening six minutes as they came away with a 24-8 victory on
the road that improves the team to 3-0 in A-Sun play.
The day belonged to senior Morgan Derner
(Lake Mary, Fla.), who not only scored
six goals and added a pair of assists in the game, but also became the first
player in program history to collect more than 200 points. Entering the day at
195 points, Derner scored the second, fourth and sixth JU goals of the
afternoon and assisted on the Dolphins’ third goal, which came from Ali Hoffman
(Gambrills, Md.). The big moment came with 6:21 remaining in the first half, as
a pass from Hannah Wilcox
(McMurray, Pa.) freed Derner for a goal that gave
Jacksonville a 13-6 lead and hit the milestone. She would go on to add two more
goals and an assist before the game was over, and holds the all-time record in
program history with 203 career points.
After storming out to a 17-7 lead at halftime, including a pair of
back-breaking goals inside the final 10 seconds of the first half,
Jacksonville’s defense took care of the rest. The Hatters only squeezed off
seven shots in the second half and could only score once.
Though Derner was the star, there were contributions across the board from
Jacksonville on the afternoon. Taylor McCord
(Jacksonville, Fla.) and Brittney
(Lebanon, N.J.) each recorded hat tricks, and Sally Holbert
Ohio) added a pair of goals. All three players ended with four points in the

. “It was a true team effort today and it was good to see our defense in
the second half hold them to just the one goal.”
Jacksonville wraps up its five-game road trip on April 16 with a visit to
Nashville to take on Vanderbilt at 2 p.m.
