Hoffman Nets Her 100th Career Goal in Dolphins 24-3 Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three players on the Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team have recorded career milestones this season and senior Ali Hoffman added her name to the list in the Dolphins 24-3 victory over Howard University on Friday.

“I thought we showed a great offensive performance,” said Head Coach Mindy McCord. “We were plus 21 with our plus/minus ratio on the scoreboard and had 14 different people scoring. I really liked the distribution on offense; it was great to get other kids some experience and really work through our sets. Overall, it was just a great team win and our depth played a huge role in being dominant in this game.”

The statistic sheet captured four Dolphins (11-5, 4-0 A-Sun) concluding the affair with a hat trick but there was one player who recorded a lone score to move the crowd at D.B. Milne to its feet. Five minutes into the contest, Hoffman tucked a free-position shot just left of the Howard goalies stick to record her 100th career goal.  The score signaled JU’s eighth and on the opposite side, they held the visiting Bison to one goal at the 25:49 mark.

By the half, the Dolphins would only allow Howard (1-13, 0-4 A-Sun) to double their score while they tacked on several more to hold an 18-2 advantage.

Giving up two goals and recording three saves, keeper Asia Moore collected her eighth win of the season. Mariah Cudlipp later took over the goalkeeping duties in the second half and posted a save while permitting one Howard goal.

The Dolphins outshot Howard 37-to-8 and held the advantage in ground balls (33-to-16) and draw controls (17-to-12). They also committed 14 fewer turnovers, caused 13 more turnovers and went a perfect 8-for-8 in clear attempts.

By the numbers … Morgan Derner, Hannah Wilcox, Holly Ventimiglia and Rachel Aus each recorded hat tricks … Danielle Della Rocca posted a score with a game-high two assists … Kaitlin Stewart earned a team-high three draw controls … Tori Seitz caused a game-high four turnovers to go alongside three draws.

On Sunday, the Dolphins will host Elon in the battle for first place. With one final game left in the regular season both teams are looking to clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun tournament. The 1 p.m. contest will also mark JU’s Senior Day so be sure to join your favorite women’s lacrosse team at D.B. Milne as they acknowledge the 2014 graduating class for all of their hard work and commitment to the program.

“We are very excited for Sunday,” continued McCord. “It’s our Senior Day and it’s the regular season championship opportunity. I think we’ve had some great momentum moving into the end of the season. Elon is a very good team. They are well coached and we are expecting a good competition. We hope to be able to take the momentum from Vanderbilt and this game and really showcase our team’s system at its highest level.”
