Sand Volleyball Earns Atlantic Sun Win

DeLand, Fla. – Jacksonville University sand volleyball earned its first Atlantic Sun conference win on Friday, splitting the day. The Dolphins took down FGCU while falling to Stetson.

Jacksonville (2-9 overall, 1-1 A-Sun) beat out the Eagles 4-1 – the team’s second 4-1 match of the season. Against Stetson, JU lost another close one, 3-2.

Against Stetson, No. 1 Taylor Nyquist and Sammie Strausbaugh defeated Kaley Melville and Kaylee Anderson 21-15 and 21-17 while No. 2 Kendall Courtney and Niatha Cullen beat Julie Bassett and Rachael Farrell 21-19 and 21-14.

Jacksonville’s No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 pairs lost in straight sets. Rachel Miller and Emily Laskelle fell 21-10 and 21-6, Alyssa Robertson and Mayara Prestes were beaten 28-26 and 21-19, and Gabriela Roman and Jizzian Gesualdo lost 23-21 and 22-20.

The Dolphins will conclude competition at Stetson on Saturday, facing FGCU at 9:00 a.m. and Stetson at 1:00 p.m.
