No. 3 Fins Fall to No. 2 Stetson in Atlantic Sun Semifinal

FORT MYERS, Fla. ­– No. 3 Jacksonville University sand volleyball concluded its 2014 season in the Atlantic Sun Sand Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, April 19. The Fins lost 4-1 against No. 2 Stetson in the semifinals after upsetting them with a 3-2 win on Friday.

Stetson will compete against No. 1 North Florida for the championship title at 3 p.m.

The Fins finished 8-15 overall and 5-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.


No. 1 duo Taylor Nyquist and Sammie Strausbaugh defeated Stetson’s Kaylee Anderson and Kaley Melville 21-15 and 21-13 to finish 2-for-3 in the tournament with both of their wins against Stetson.

No. 2 Niatha Cullen and Kendall Courtney lost 10-21, 21-13 and 15-12 to Catherine Coston and Savannah Byl, No. 3 Rachel Miller and Lauren Homrich fell 21-17 and 21-16 to Rachael Farrell and Julie Bassett, No. 4 Gabriela Roman and Mayara Prestes lost 21-19 in straight sets to Maren Rygh and Jordann Dierickx and No. 5 Emily Laskelle and Alyssa Robertson lost 21-16 and 21-17 to Kristin Lind and Tiffany Creamer.
