Softball Swept at USC Upstate, 6-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Jacksonville University softball was swept 6-0 at USC Upstate on Sunday to conclude its first weekend of Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Jacksonville falls to 8-8 overall and 0-3 in conference, while USC Upstate improves to 19-0 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic Sun.

The Fins recorded four hits and managed four walks, including a team-high three from Victoria Brown, while the Spartans tallied six runs on 11 hits.

The Spartans recorded an early lead, jumping to 1-0 in the bottom of the first frame as Cheyenne Griffin hit an RBI single up the middle to score Dana Landers, who initially singled to shortshop, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. They added one run in the third, one in the fourth and capped off the game with three in the sixth for their 6-0 shutout.

Brown (4-4) allowed 11 hits, six earned runs and two walks in 5.1 innings, while Cecile Gomez came in for relief for the final two batters.

Next, Jacksonville heads to Orlando to play in the UCF Round Robin on Wednesday, March 5. The Fins will take on UCF at 3:30 p.m. and Boston College at 6:00 pm.
