JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After opening Atlantic Sun Conference play last weekend, the Jacksonville University softball team will return to non-conference play this Wednesday, March 5 in the UCF Round Robin. The Fins will compete against UCF of the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Jacksonville (8-8 overall) will face the UCF Knights at 3:30 p.m. and the Boston College Eagles at 6:00 p.m. UCF stands 10-7 overall, while Boston College is 8-5 overall.
Jacksonville competed against one other AAC school, Louisville, in its JU Tournament on Feb. 14. Then ranked No. 25, the Cardinals beat JU 5-0. The Fins also played three other ACC schools earlier this season, finishing 4-for-5. The Fins twice beat Maryland at the Felsberg Memorial Tournament (Feb. 7-9), struck down North Carolina in both meetings at the JU Tournament (Feb. 14-16) and lost to Notre Dame 9-1 in five innings.
Most recently, Jacksonville lost its first A-Sun series of the season at USC Upstate March 1-2, falling 5-3, 8-1 and 6-0.
UCF won two of four games in its Holiday Inn/UCF Tournament Feb. 28-March 1, beating Princeton 4-0 and SIUE 5-1, while Boston College went 2-for-3 at Georgia Tech March 1-2 and will play at Florida on March 4.
All-time, Jacksonville has fared 2-12 against UCF and 0-1 verses Boston College.
Victoria Brown leads the Fins with a .348 batting average (16-for-46), tied with Karson Tuck (.240, 12-for-50) for 10 runs apiece.
UCF’s Linnea Goodman tops the Knights at .356 (16-for-45) with seven runs recorded, while Tory Speer leads Boston College with a .414 average (12-for-29) with 13 runs.
