@JUsoftball Dropped by Florida Gulf Coast
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball fell 4-0 during its series finale on Sunday against Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles won the series 2-1.
JU stands 15-26 overall and 6-14 in the Atlantic Sun while FGCU improves to 25-21-1 and 8-10, respectively.
Over the weekend series, Ashley Simon led with a .714 batting average hitting 5-for-7 with one run and one RBI. Charli Bradshaw (.444, 4-for-9, 2 R) and Emily Sanchez (.400, 4-for-10) round out the top three.
FGCU’s Jessica Barnes broke up the blank scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run homer to left center to score Tori Van Camp from first base for a 2-0 FGCU lead. Shortly after, Kelsey Carpenter followed with another two-run long ball to plate Makensie McAvoy from first base for FGCU's eventual winning 4-0 score.
The Eagles recorded four runs on 11 hits and the Dolphins tallied six. Ashley Simon led the day hitting 3-for-3, Emily Sanchez went 2-for-2 and Charli Bradshaw hit 1-for-3.
On the mound, Taylor Rossman (2-9) allowed three runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk over 4.1 innings. Victoria Brown pitched 2.2 innings of relief and allowed one run (one earned) on four hits.
FGCU’s Shelby Morgan (10-5) earned the win, allowing six hits and one walk in the complete effort.
Next, Jacksonville will travel to Georgia Southern for a non-conference double-header on Wednesday, April 16.
