JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The Jacksonville University indoor track & field team is gearing up for its first meet in nearly three weeks at this weekend’s Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
On Friday, field events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the weight throw trial and final, while running events will start at 5:30 p.m. with the 200-meter dash. On Saturday, multi-events, field events and running events will all open at 9:00 a.m. The meet is set to finish with the 4x400-meter relay.
In the Dolphins’ most recent meet on Jan. 17 at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, three student-athletes won four individual events. Stormm Phillips won both the pentathlon shot put and the pentathlon long jump to ultimately win the indoor pentathlon, while Petra Munkacsy placed first in the pentathlon 55-meter hurdles and Shanique Walker won the 55-meter hurdles.
For their respective performances, both Phillips and Walker swept the Atlantic Sun weekly awards on Jan. 22, earning A-Sun field performer of the week and A-Sun track performer of the week, respectively.
