Volleyball Looks to Stay Perfect at UCF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After storming their way to three tournament titles in three weeks, the Jacksonville University volleyball team sets its sights on UCF. Wednesday’s match begins at 7 p.m. in Orlando and, though it is not JU's final non-conference match of the year, it marks JU’s last non-conference match before the beginning of Atlantic Sun play this weekend.

The Dolphins have accrued the best record in the A-Sun to date and look to keep their sizzling start going in their first non-tournament match this year. They're ranked 10th nationwide in aces per set according to the NCAA.com -- calculating games through Sept. 15. -- totalling 27 sets, 55 aces and 2.04 aces per set.

For JU's play at the FIU Invitational, Sammie Strausbaugh and Gabriela Roman earned all-tournament honors and Strausbaugh received her second MVP nod in as many weeks after also earning the honor at the Jacksonville-hosted Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. If the Dolphins are victorious on Wednesday, they will match their win record from last season when they closed out at 10-24.

UCF relies on outside hitter Angelica Crump and middle blocker DeLaina Sarden to carry its offense. Each averages over 3.50 kills per set. Crump was named to the Georgia State Invitational all-tournament team for her performance last weekend, which included 73 kills in four matches and a new career high with 25 against Davidson. The Knights will be a true road test for the Dolphins as they have an overall record of 8-3, including a 6-1 record at home.

Following the match at UCF, the Dolphins continue a stretch of road matches, taking on Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 6 p.m., and Stetson on Saturday at 3 p.m.
