JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore outside hitter Sammie Strausbaugh represents the Jacksonville University volleyball team on the 2013-14 Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference team, the league announced Monday, Nov. 18. She also was named the Player of the Week for the fourth time in her young career and second time this season. This is Jacksonville’s fourth honor this season and third POTW.

Strausbaugh, the lone sophomore on the seven-woman roster, posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average as an Exercise Science major to earn her first honor.

“Sammie is just a great role model for all student athletes in our program,” said Head Coach Michelle Collier. “She works hard both in the classroom and on the court and for a young student-athlete to get both of these recognitions is very unique. We are proud of her efforts and what she has done for us academically and athletically.”

Ending the regular-season this past weekend at USC Upstate and ETSU, Strausbaugh recorded consecutive double-doubles to tally 13 on the season and earned a career-high kill total.

At USC Upstate, she posted 18 kills for the fourth time this season and tied a career-best 20 digs for the second; both match-highs. At ETSU, Strausbaugh earned a career-best 19 kills with 10 digs. Her numbers add up to 24 double-digit kills and 15 double-digit dig efforts of the 29 matches she played during the regular-season.

Overall, Strausbaugh leads Jacksonville in service aces per set (0.36), kills per set (3.44) and digs per set (2.90). Her service aces per set and kills per set numbers are good for first and seventh in the A-Sun, respectively. She is also fourth on Jacksonville in attack percentage (.281), fifth in blocks per set (0.44) and sixth in assists per set (0.21).

Strausbaugh was previously named POTW on Sept. 30 this year and during her freshman season on Nov. 12 and Oct. 29, 2012.

"She had a solid performance this past weekend, and I think her being named player of the week speaks highly of the job our TEAM did performing at a very high level last Saturday,” Collier continued. “She has been very consistent for us this season and she is comfortable playing an important role for her team."

Next, Jacksonville will compete in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship semifinals on Friday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. on ESPN3.
