Champion Fins Host FAMU Before NCAA Run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After winning their second-ever Atlantic Sun Tournament title this past Saturday (Nov. 23) to earn an automatic-bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship, the Jacksonville University volleyball team will compete one final time this season at home. The Dolphins will host Florida A&M, members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m.

The Dolphins (29-3) concluded their conference play on Saturday, Nov. 23, beating third-seeded Lipscomb, 3-2, in a hard-fought battle for the 2013 A-Sun Tournament title, hosted by Kennesaw State University.

At Swisher, the Fins are a perfect 13-0.

Offensively, senior Kylie Jacob leads with a .338 attack percentage, followed by senior Kendall Courtney (.312). Courtney leads in assists per set (10.54), followed by sophomore Jizzian Gesualdo (2.40). Sophomore Sammie Strausbaugh (.34), Courtney (.33) and red-shirt junior Taylor Nyquist (.32) are first, second, and third, respectively, in service aces per set, while Strausbaugh also tops in kills per set (3.43), followed by sophomore Gabriela Roman (2.63) and Jacob (2.49).

On defense, Jacob also leads in blocks per set (1.01), while senior Alyssa Robertson is second (.88). Strausbaugh also leads in digs per set (2.89), followed by freshman Rachel Miller (2.72).

FAMU wrapped its tournament play on Nov. 16, falling in the 2013 MEAC Volleyball Championship semifinals in five sets to Coppin State.

Ginna Lopez-Chavez leads the Rattlers with a .454 attack percentage, followed by Dei’Ja Martin’s .315. Diana Gonzales tops in assists per set with 9.86, while Yeisha Arcia leads in service aces per set (.29) and while Katherine Huanec tops in kills per set (3.42).

Defensively, Lopez-Chavez (.96) and Martin (.75) are first and second, respectively, in blocks per set, while Joanie Del Castillo leads in digs per set (4.78).
