April Taylor Named Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance
Taylor will be in charge of NCAA Rules Compliance and Student-Athlete Services  

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Director of Athletics Brad Edwards is pleased to announce the hiring of April Taylor as Jacksonville University’s new Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. In this role she will help guide JU athletics comply with all NCAA, Atlantic Sun, and University rules regulations, policies, and procedures. She will also provide oversight of student-athletes support services, serve as sport administrator, and serve as a member of senior staff. Taylor will report to Director of Athletics Brad Edwards, and serve as the liaison between athletics and various University Departments.

“We are extremely pleased to have someone of April’s caliber join us at Jacksonville University,” said Edwards. “She brings with her a comprehensive background in compliance with experience in our business as a successful former student-athlete and coach, and now as a highly-regarded administrator.”

Taylor comes to JU after spending the previous three years at Southern Methodist University as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Welfare. In her role at SMU, she provided leadership and day-to-day compliance support to all 17 athletic programs. In addition to educating SMU student-athletes, coaches and outside parties about NCAA rules and regulations, she also prepared annual reports, coordinated NCAA audits, process and prepared NCAA waivers. She served as primary liaison to football, women’s and men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis and the Athletics Business Office.

Among a large list of professional affiliations, Taylor is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA), the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) and the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). Taylor has been an active member of the National Association for Athletic Compliance Education Committee. This summer she co-presented at 2013 NCAA Regional Rules on New Legislation and severed as a moderator during the 2013 NACDA Convention.

Taylor’s first career after college came at Newberry College, where she was an assistant women’s basketball coach from 2006-2008. It was there that she made the transition into compliance, as well as working in the Student-Athlete Support Services department.

In 2008, Alabama State University hired Taylor as Assistant Director of Compliance. After less than a year on the job, she was promoted to Director of Compliance. While with the Hornets, she was responsible for the development of the university’s first-ever rules education program. Taylor served as academic advisor for men’s and women’s basketball, football, transfer student-athletes and served as the certifying officer. She was instrumental in the successful appeal to the NCAA for a two-year reduction in penalties for violations committed before her arrival at the school.

Taylor is originally from Memphis, Tenn., and was a former women’s basketball student-athlete at Clayton State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2006. Taylor earned her Master's of science in leadership from South University in 2011.
