Women's Soccer Faces Road Test in Exhibition Match

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women’s soccer team – picked second in the Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches’ Poll –  will get an early glance at the year ahead when the Dolphins travel to take on Valdosta State this Friday at 5 p.m for an exhibition match. Returning 14 letterwinners off of the 2012 squad that advanced to the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament, the Dolphins will try to use that familiarity to their advantage as they take on the Blazers, who qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament last season in just their second year as a program.

With Friday’s match not counting in the standings, it will give both teams the luxury of trying out some different things as they prepare for what they hope will be successful 2013 campaigns.

“We are excited to get a chance to play somebody other than ourselves,” said JU Head Coach Brian Copham. “We hope this will be a good opportunity to see where we are in a number of different areas, and we’ll get to play a lot of different players and combinations to see what’s really working for us.”

Earlier in the preseason, Copham took a few minutes to sit down and discuss his team and the upcoming 2013 season. You can view that conversation below.

JU’s regular season begins next weekend with a pair of home matches at Southern Oak Stadium. On Aug. 23, Flagler pays a visit for a 7 p.m. match in the season opener. On Aug. 25, the Dolphins will be tested by Miami – a NCAA Tournament qualifier a year ago – in a 2 p.m. first kick.
