Saroli Named to Preseason Team

MACON, Ga.—Rising junior forward Matheus Saroli was named to the Atlantic Sun Preseason Team on Thursday when the results were announced by the league office.  The Dolphins were also picked to finish sixth in the conference.

In just his first season at JU, Saroli lead the Dolphins and was second overall in the A-Sun with seven goals and 18 points.  Transferring to JU after his freshman season, he made an immediate impact on the field as the Dolphins’ top playmaker.  All throughout the season he showed his creativity and touch with the ball and garnered First Team All-Conference honors.  His two goals and an assist led JU to a 5-1 victory over cross-town rival UNF that secured the Dolphins a trip to the postseason tournament.

The Dolphins also were picked to finish sixth by the coaches around the league.  In his inaugural season as the head coach, Ryan Pratt led JU to a 4-13-1 record.  On a team that had no seniors and few upperclassman, the Dolphins and Pratt did well to finish in the top six in the conference and qualify for the A-Sun Tournament.  With another year of experience under their belts and a talented group of newcomers, the Dolphins expect to improve on their record last season and challenge for a title.

The season kicks off for the Dolphins on August 21 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF for the team’s first of three exhibition matches.  The Dolphins will start the regular season at home when they host Valparaiso on August 30.
