Women’s Golf Closes Out UNCG Starmount Forest Tournament in 7th Place
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Jacksonville University women’s golf team slipped one spot on Tuesday, ending the UNC-Greensboro Starmount Tournament in 7th place out of 15 competing schools. The Dolphins ended up shooting a total of 905 for the three rounds, placing ahead of fellow Atlantic Sun members Stetson (906) and North Florida (936).

Natalie Schmett once again paced the Dolphins in the third round, ending the tournament with a 73. The junior was at even-par through 16 holes before running into a bit of difficulty late and ending her round with back-to-back bogeys. She offset those with three birdies in her round, sinking putts on the par-4 6th, par-3 10th and par-5 18th. She closed out the tournament in a tie for 13th place overall.

Backing up Schmett’s solid play was junior Jessica Welch, who closed out with a 75. Her total of 226 put her in a tie for 27th.

The tournament was won by Chattanooga, which opened up a large lead on Monday then held off a pair of challengers today. The Mocs ended the tournament with a total of 876, while Campbell (878) and Maryland (884) finished second and third, respectively.

The Dolphins will be off next week but return to action on October 14-15, hosting the JU Classic at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach. Eleven teams make up the field, including five from the state of Florida.
