Volleyball Against Kennesaw State on ESPN3
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a 2-0 sweep last weekend over Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky with 3-1 victories, the Jacksonville University volleyball team will be competing at Kennesaw State and Mercer for its second Atlantic Sun road series.
JU will play Kennesaw State on Friday at 7 p.m. with the game set to be broadcast live on ESPN3. The Dolphins will end the weekend against Mercer on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Leading in offense, Sammie Strausbaugh has 3.43 kills per set, totaling 168 kills in 49 sets. Gabriela Roman (2.72), Kylie Jacob (2.34) and Taylor Nyquist (2.23) all help in averaging above 2.23 kills per set. On defense, freshman Rachel Miller leads with 3.14 digs per set and Strausbaugh follows with 3.12. Jacob is JU’s leader in blocks with 1.08 per set, tallying 57.0 total.
JACKSONVILLE vs. KENNESAW STATE
The Dolphins sit 3-1 in the Atlantic Sun and 12-2 overall, while the Owls are 1-3 and 6-8, respectively.
All-time against the Owls, the Dolphins are 7-3. In their last meeting on Oct. 27, 2012, the Dolphins won on the road 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11). During their first match of last season on Oct. 5, the Dolphins lost at Swisher 2-3 (21-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 12-15).
For the Owls, freshman outside hitter Kelly Marcinek averages 3.19 kills per set, totaling 172 kills in 54 sets, while junior outside hitter Keyaira Stevenson averages 2.96 kills per set. On defense, senior defensive specialist/libero Camille Pedraza averages 4.31 digs per set, leading with 237 digs in 55 sets. In blocks, no player is over 1.00 blocks per set, but redshirt-freshman middle blocker Megan McGuinness averages 0.83 per set.
JACKSONVILLE vs. MERCER
Mercer is on a 12-game losing streak and has yet to win an Atlantic Sun match, standing 0-4 and 1-13 overall. The Bears’ lone win of the season was against Jacksonville State, 3-1, on Aug. 30.
Molly Locke tops the Bears in kills with 3.08 per set, Emily Rochefort has 4.74 digs per set and Zoe Becton has 0.42 blocks per set with 21.0 total.
