JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women’s golf team – coming off a 7th place finish at the UNC-Greensboro Starmount Forest Tournament – comes home to face a field of 10 other schools at the 6th Annual JU Classic, coming up on Monday and Tuesday. For the first time ever, the tournament will be held at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The par-72, 5,987 yard Marsh Landing course will play host to a regional field featuring five Florida schools, four from South Carolina and one each from Alabama and North Carolina. The Dolphins bested Atlantic Sun foes Stetson and UNF at their last tournament, and will face those schools once again. In addition, USC Upstate joins in on the action this time around.
Teeing off for Jacksonville at the tournament are mainstays Morgan Matchett, Natalie Schmett and Jessica Welch. Francesca Yong will play in her second tournament of the season of the fall for the Dolphins and making her season debut is Carlie Gehlhausen. Though playing on a different course last year, Welch led JU with a three-round total of 220 that put her just one shot out of a playoff and in third place as an individual.
“I am excited to host the JU Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club as it is a great venue,” said Head Coach Jennifer Borocz. “The team had a great showing in Greensboro and I believe we will be competing for the tournament title this week at our home tournament.”
This tournament marks the penultimate tournament of the fall season, which will conclude in a week’s time with the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in Bradenton, Fla. from Oct. 20-22.
