JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women’s basketball team wanted to give fans a small taste of what it’s been like to prepare for their upcoming season and the teaser certainly had fans excited for what is to come.
“This was just an opportunity for us to open up our practice and allow people in the community to come and see what we’re doing,” said Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. “The objective was for us to bring excitement. We don’t have our first home game until Nov. 20 and we wanted fans to see that the girls are playing hard and working. As far as the play is concerned, I saw a lot of good things. It gave the players the chance to go up and down the court more than usual so that was a plus. Now we can watch film, break it down and get better”.
In front of nearly 100 fans, including President Tim Cost, Athletic Director Brad Edwards and numerous coaches, staff, and student-athletes, the Dolphins showcased their skills. The season preview encompassed layups, 3 vs. 3, shooting drills, separate workouts for post players and guards and concluded with the Gold team defeating the Green, 51-36, in the intrasquad scrimmage.
Assistant Coach Darnell Haney worked with the Green team which consisted of:
