JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University volleyball team will compete against Savannah State University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for its second to last non-conference match of the season.
The Dolphins stand 20-3 overall, 10-2 in the Atlantic Sun and 7-3 on the road. Most recently the Fins earned their 20th win of the season at Northern Kentucky on Oct. 25 before snapping their 10-match win streak in a five-set loss at Lipscomb on Oct. 26.
The Tigers are 0-26 overall, 0-7 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and 0-4 on their court.
Leading Jacksonville in offense is Sammie Strausbaugh with 3.25 kills per set, followed by Gabriela Roman in second (2.78 k/set) and Kylie Jacob in third (2.45 k/set). Kendall Courtney holds the reigns in serve aces per set with 0.34, followed closely by Strausbaugh (0.33 sa/set) and Taylor Nyquist (0.32 sa/set).
Defensively, Jacob leads in blocks per set with 1.02, tallying 90.0 between 11 block solos and 79 block assists, while Alyssa Robertson is second with 0.95 blk/set (8 block solos and 76 block assists). In digs, Rachel Miller tops with 3.15 digs per set and 246 total, trailed by Strausbaugh (2.90 d/set) and Courtney (2.27 d/set).
For Savannah State, Gabrielle Nathaniel leads in kills per set with 1.52, followed by Justice Dilworth (1.51 k/set) and Bryana Gadis (1.44 k/set). Both Gadis and Caitlynn Masoe are tied with 0.23 serve aces per set. On defense, Christian Lyle tops with blocks per set (0.51 blk/set), while Alexis Washington is first in digs per set with 2.84.
The last time the two schools met on Sept. 14, 2012, Jacksonville shutout Savannah State 3-0 (25-9, 25-14 and 25-10).
