Marist Too Much For Jacksonville
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Known for owning the top ranked defense in the Pioneer Football League it was the Marist offense that proved to be too much for Jacksonville on Saturday at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes totaled a season high 567 yards on the way to a 42-35 victory over the Dolphins.
Jacksonville (4-5; 3-3) was led by quarterback Kade Bell who had touchdown passes of 93, 80 and 14 yards totaling 314 yards on 16 completions. Wide receiver Andrew Robustelli finished with 123 yards on three catches, including the 93 yard reception which is the longest in school history and tied for the longest in the nation this season.
The Dolphins struck first scoring on their first possession as a one-yard run by Ulysses Bryant (12 rush, 45 yards) was set up by a 45 yards fake punt run from Justin Horton.
Marist (6-3; 5-1) would strike back in a hurry scoring on three straight possessions to grab momentum and a 21-7 lead following a 76 yard touchdown catch by Armani Martin. Martin was just getting started as he finished with 162 yards and three touchdowns on six catches.
With all the momentum in favor of the Red Foxes the Dolphins defense finally came alive with a key fourth-and-one stop in its own territory. One possession later Bell found Robustelli, who out muscled the defender and sprinted ad additional 40 yards for the score with 2:21 to play in the half.
The Jacksonville defense forced a punt and the quick strike Dolphins offense was back in business again with just over a minute to go in the half. They wouldn’t need that long however as Bell hit Adrian Riley who dove for the pylon to complete a 14 yard touchdown and tie the game with 23 seconds remaining.
A 10 play, 51 yard drive put Marist back ahead 28-21 midway through the third quarter. But as they’ve done so many time this season, Jacksonville came up with another big play on the ensuing possession. This time Bell hit D’Andre Randle on an 80 yard bomb to tie the score once again.
Another long 14 play scoring drive by the Red Foxes gave them a 35-28 lead just before the end of the third quarter, the went up 42-28 on their next possession after forcing a Dolphins punt.
Jacksonville wasn’t finished. Frantz Caudio broke into the end zone with five minutes left cutting the deficit down to seven. The Dolphins defense wasn’t able to slow Marist quarterback Chuckie Looney however. Looney picked up one third down with a 12 yard scramble then completed a 12 yard pass to Martin on another third down with 1:41 left that season the win.
Grady Redding led Jacksonville with 13 tackles.
