MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville University’s men’s soccer team’s senior midfielder Guilherme Brandao, junior forward Matheus Saroli, and freshman midfielder Jack Burns have received postseason accolades, the Atlantic Sun announced on Tuesday.
Brandao and Saroli were named to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team while Burns etched a spot on the All-Atlantic Sun Freshman Team.
Senior leader Brandao will be earning his first A-Sun award. The midfielder’s hustle and soccer acumen have been vital to JU’s success. Brandao notched his first Dolphin goal in the 2-0 win over USC Upstate on Oct. 17 and went on to earn Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors for recording a goal and two assists in matches against USC Upstate and ETSU. He has recorded a goal and three assists on the season.
Recently placed on the Academic All-Conference team, Saroli continues his meritorious season with these honors. In just 11 matches played, he is tied for seventh in the conference in points with 10. Coming up big down the stretch, three of his four goals have occurred in A-Sun play.
Starting in all 17 regular season games for the Fins, midfielder Jack Burns has led a great freshman campaign. He is tied for third on the team in points (8) with two goals and four assists. Notching his first career game winner over Davidson, he scored on a header in the 106th minute of double overtime for the 2-1 JU victory. Burns also assisted in keeping JU’s tournament hopes alive when he found Shenaldo Parkes for an assist that allowed JU to tie against Stetson in the last match of the season.
Earning the sixth seed in the conference, Jacksonville finished the 2013 regular season with a 4-10-3 overall record and a 2-4-2 record in the A-Sun. The Fins will play No. 3 Lipscomb in the first round of the A-Sun Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 13 in Fort Myers at 4 p.m.
