JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University baseball team wrapped up their fall team workouts on Nov. 7-9 by hosting the annual Green and Gold inner squad World Series. Led by Most Valuable Player Nathan Disch, the Gold team claimed a 2-1 series victory.
A freshman from Appleton, Wis., Disch threw five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six in the decisive third game. The Gold offense was backed by senior Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif.) who knocked in a team best six RBI in the three games while going 5 for 9 (.556) with a double, triple and a run scored. Sophomore Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla.) was also big for the Gold going 6 for 11 (.545) with a RBI and four runs scored.
In addition, freshman Connor Marabell (Jacksonville, Fla.) wasted little time in giving the Dolphin fans a display of his ability that led to First Team FCSAA All-State honors for Seminole State a year ago. Marabell connected on a solo home run to right in the early stages of game one and finished the series 4 for 9 (.444) with the home run, three RBI and a run scored
For the Green squad, sophomore Parker Perez (Winter Springs, Fla.), another newcomer from Seminole State, went 3 for 8 (.375) with three runs scored.
Senior Zach Gordon (St. Petersburg, Fla.) won game two on the mound for the Green going five of the seven innings allowing a single run on two hits with four strike outs and a walk.
Junior Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis.) claimed the win in game one after allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
Jacksonville will now open the 2014 season Feb. 14-16 with a three game series at TCU. The Dolphins will then return home for a 12-game homestand that will include games against Florida State, Rutgers and Indiana.
