Dolphins Ready to Go to War with Seminoles
The Jacksonville University women’s basketball team head to Tallahassee on Saturday, Dec. 8 as they challenge an ACC powerhouse in Florida State. The contest is set to tip-off at 2 p.m. and will be the squad’s first game to air on ESPN3.com.
The teams haven’t faced each other in over 10 years with the last game taking place in Swisher Gymnasium on Dec. 18, 2002. The Seminoles lead the all-time series, 2-0.
JU’S LAST OUTING: FIVE FINS FINISH IN DOUBLE-DIGITS
Currently riding the waves of their third consecutive win, the Dolphins remained perfect at home and improved to 3-2 on the season when they defeated Tennessee State, 87-66, on Wednesday night.
Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has been harping on total team efforts all season and the Dolphins have certainly bought into her game plan. The team has won all of their games when four or more players finish in double figures. In the win over TSU, five Fins did so.
Spearheaded by sophomore guard Queen Alford and her first double-double of the season on 24 points and 13 rebounds, Jacksonville's offense seemed to be unstoppable. Madison Scott posted a career-high 18 points while senior guard Stephanie Edwards and senior forward Jade Cargill recorded 11 each and sophomore forward Briona Brown chipped in with 10.
Wednesday’s contest marked the first game since 2011 that the Fins have shot over .500 from the field. The last time the team accomplished the feat was on Dec.5 when they converted on 55.6 percent of their baskets over Jacksonville State, the Fins made 53.1 percent from the floor (34-for-64) against TSU.
Hosting No. 25 Michigan State on Wednesday evening, the Seminoles picked up their 26th USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 win under head coach Sue Semrau. FSU defeated the Spartans, 60-58, and improved to 7-1 overall on play from senior Natasha Howard. The All-America candidate led all-scorers with 23 points and 12 boards and is currently the top scorer and rebounder on the Noles’ roster averaging 15.9 PPG and 8.8 RPG.
