JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball is continuing to play on the road this week as the Fins travel to Gainesville for a single-game at No. 2 Florida on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

JU (3-2) opened its 2014 season last weekend in Miami at the Felsberg Memorial Tournament hosted at Florida International University (FIU). The Fins split the first two days, highlighting with a 12-0 five-inning shutout over Big East preseason favorite DePaul to open the tournament and ending on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Maryland, thanks in part to sophomore Victoria Brown’s solo home run in the first inning.

Brown averaged .375, finished 6-for-16, and recorded five runs, one double, six RBI and three home runs.

Senior Codi Kelly led the Fins at-bat, hitting .467 (7-for-15), tallying two runs, one double and two RBI.

In the circle, Brown’s performance was enough to earn her a career-first Atlantic Sun Co-Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday, Feb. 10. Finishing the tournament with two shutouts and relief help, she posted a 0.00 ERA, struck out 10 in 14.1 innings, and walked just two batters. Sophomore Cecile Gomez (1-0) also picked up a win.

Florida (6-0) began its season with a perfect record at the USF Wilson-DeMarini Tournament, beating USF, Illinois State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Bethune-Cookman. The Gators took out the Michigan Blue 9-4 in overtime and finished its tournament with an 8-0 blanking of the Wildcats.

In the series record, Florida has won all 11 contests against Jacksonville, including an 11-3 win last season at the JU Softball Complex.
