McKinnon's 69 Highlights Day Two For JU at Hayt Invitational
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - Led by a -3, 69 from Brett McKinnon, Jacksonville University men’s golf posted 292 in the second round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Monday at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The Dolphins team score bested six other teams in the field for the round, including city rival North Florida. Round one was halted mid-way through on Sunday then completed on Monday morning before the field begin play in round two. McKinnon closed the rain delayed round one with a +3 75, but came out strong in the afternoon posting five birdies against two bogeys for his 69. The -3 round gained him 18 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 18th.
Connor Salanger added to the +4 team score for round two with an even par 72.
The 15-team tournament features nine team ranked in top 70 teams according to the latest Golfweek.com rankings, including No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Central Florida, and No. 13 UAB.
Final round action begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Jacksonville will be paired with Furman and UNC Wilmington.
