Softball Hosts First-Time Opponent on Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball is readying to take on a new opponent this Wednesday, hosting NEC member Mount St. Mary’s on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The double-header is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex.

Jacksonville (7-5) fared well in its most recent games at the JU Wingate by Wyndham Tournament last weekend, shutting out the University of Illinois-Chicago 8-0 (5), before clobbering Southern Illinois 9-2.

The Mount opened their season last weekend at the tourney, winning all three games. They beat Bethune-Cookman 3-2, Savannah State 9-6 (9) and the University of Illinois-Chicago 5-2.

Victoria Brown leads the Fins with a .400 batting average (14-for-35), followed by Codi Kelly (.385, 15-for-39) and Cecile Gomez (.367, 11-for-30). In the circle, Gomez is a perfect 3-0 and Brown stands 4-2; both have ERA’s below 2.00.

For the Mount, Rachel Gavigan leads with a .333 average (4-for-12), followed by Marisa Mayes, Lindsey Ruhle and Rachel Teti (.286, 2-for-7).
