McKinnon Paces Dolphins With Top 10 Finish At Hayt Invitational
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -Another strong round from Brett McKinnon led the Jacksonville University men’s golf to another +4, 292 and moved the Dolphins two spots up the leaderboard in the final round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The Dolphins team score bested nine other teams in the 15 field for the round, including city rival North Florida for the second consecutive round, this time by nine strokes. McKinnon was tied for 18th to start the day and followed his -3, 69 on Monday with a -1, 71 to earn a tie for 10th place. The junior from Nova Scotia posted four birdies on Tuesday and ended the 54-hole event at -1, 215 (75-69-71).
Prem Samritpricha backed McKinnon with an even par 72 on Tuesday. His day was highlighted with a hole-in-one on the par 3, 190 yard 6th. Nick Torrance had a 74 and Colin Monagle posted a 75 Connor Salanger added to the +4 team score for round two with an even par 72.
The 15-team tournament features nine team ranked in top 70 teams according to the latest Golfweek.com rankings, including No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Central Florida, and No. 13 UAB. The back-to-back 292s from the Dolphins moved the sqaud into 13th place.
Jacksonville will take this weekend off before returning to action March 9-10 at the Bash at the Beach in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
