Dolphins Go For Three in a Row on Saturday

Can the Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team make it three wins in a row? The Dolphins certainly hope so as they host Longwood on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m.

After watching the Dolphins take on the Lancers, join the squad for an evening filled with plenty of food and fun at their inaugural Bull & Shrimp Roast. Scheduled from 6-9:30 p.m., the event will include a 6:15pm dinner, followed by an evening of raffles, money wheel prizes, a silent auction, cash bar, jersey auction, and door prizes. RSVPs are still being accepted; please see the attached registration form for more information.

Michigan was the latest to fall to the powerhouse Fins. Playing their best lacrosse lately, JU’s defensive pressure held the Wolverines to just 15 shots en route to their 15-7 victory. Holly Ventimiglia (Medford, N. Y.) led the Fins with four goals and Morgan Derner (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Ali Hoffman (Gambrills, Md.) each added three goals.

The Lancers (1-3) last played Navy where they took a 14-8 loss at home. Averaging 12.75 goals and 7.25 assists per game, while their record isn’t all too telling, the team is one of the best in the Big South. Junior midfielder Kacey Norwood directs Longwood with 12 goals and nine assists while teammate sophomore midfielder Katie McHugh has recorded 10 goals.

The Dolphins hold the all-time series advantage against the Lancers. After dropping the first contest in 2010, the Fins have rebounded to claim the last two wins.

Jacksonville takes a trip up to North Carolina next Sunday where they will meet No. 6 Duke at noon.
