Softball Wins Weekend Series Against NKU
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University softball continued its winning ways, defeating Northern Kentucky 7-1 on Sunday to sweep its first Atlantic Sun series of the season.
The Fins, on a three-game
win streak, improve to 11-10 overall and 3-3 in the A-Sun. Over the weekend, they recorded 25 runs on 34 hits.
Overall, Jacksonville earned seven runs on eight hits and recorded seven RBI.
Codi Kelly began the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, powering an RBI single up the middle that scored Victoria Brown from second.
In the second inning, Jacksonville added four runs on two hits and two NKU errors. Stephanie Frances bombed an RBI double to center field that plated Jada Power, Kelly’s hit-by-pitch forced Frances to home from third base, and Karson Tuck blasted a 2-RBI double to center field that scored Jackie DiPiazza and Brown.
Jacksonville tallied its final two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, while NKU scored once in the top of the fifth to break the shutout.
Frances led, finishing 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, followed by Tuck (2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBI), Kelly (1-for-2, 1 R, 2 RBI) and Brown (1-for-2, 2 R).
In the circle, freshman Jessi Walker (2-1) fanned four in 5.1 innings, while allowing one run (one earned) on three hits and one walk. Brown came in for 1.2 innings of relief, striking out one while allowing one hit and one walk.
Next, Jacksonville will host non-conference FIU in a double-header on Wednesday, March 12 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
