Jacksonville Flies to Detroit for Sunday Contest
Jacksonville University looks for its second conference victory of the season as it flies to Detroit on Sunday, April 6 for a 12 p.m. game.
JU’S LAST OUTING
Stony Brook held the nation’s eighth-ranked JU offense to two goals while notching 13 on Friday evening. Recording both scores with less than 2:30 minutes left in regulation were freshmen Danielle Della Rocca and Rachel Aus.
Keeper Asia Moore had a solid game in between the pipes with 12 saves and Chelsea Watts was crucial to the Dolphins transition defense with five draws, four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Detroit enters Sunday’s game 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the A-Sun. The team’s sole win occurred on Mar. 11 in a 19-6 triumph over Delaware State and most recently they dropped a 14-4 decision at Niagara.
Averaging 6.6 goals per game, the Titans aren’t gelling as well as they did last season. Kylie Birney leads the team with 15 goals and one assist for 16 points and teammate Tessa Kueler is second at 16 points on eight goals and eight dishes.
Birney, Morgan Miller and Ally Shrader direct the Titan defense with 10 caused turnovers each while keeper Lexie McCormick has a team-high 32 ground balls.
Thus far, McCormick has made 95 saves for a save percentage of .42 and she gives up 13.51 goals per game.
In one of the most storied rivalries of the Dolphins five-year program history, JU owns a 7-0 lead in the all-time series. Last year, Jacksonville topped the Titans 22-8 to win the Atlantic Sun’s inaugural women’s lacrosse championship.
The Fins close out their five-game road travels next week with Stetson on April 12 and Vanderbilt a few days later on April 16.
