Track and Field Scores Best Outdoor Ranking Thus Far in USTFCCCA Index
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After record-setting performances and noteworthy finishes at both the 120th Penn Relays and the North Florida Invitational last week, Jacksonville University outdoor track and field improved in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Index, released April 28.
The Dolphins jumped three spots from 13th to 10th for their best standing thus far with 212.46 points. During the first three weeks of ranking, they stood 11th with 205.77 points, 12th with 166.71 points and 13th with 172.22 points.
“We had a lot of very strong performances this weekend,” said Head Coach Ron Grigg. “The plan is to keep the momentum going as we enter the championship portion of our season.”
At the Penn Relays last Thursday, senior Svenja Meyer and freshman Katy Solis each broke JU’s almost 20-year old record in the 10k with their times. Meyer finished sixth of 36 in the 10,000m run, crossing in 34:34.98, besting JU’s previous record of 37:25.31 set by Allison Wilfong on May 14, 1994. Solis also broke the record with a time of 36:46.05.
Last Saturday at the UNF Invitational, Jacksonville recorded two individual wins and eight second-place finishes.
Jacksonville’s next meet is scheduled for May 10 in Tallahassee at the Seminole Twilight.
