Fins Eager for Ninth Consecutive A-Sun Outdoor Title

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eight-time defending Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Champions, the Jacksonville University Dolphins are eager to add a ninth outdoor title and an indoor/outdoor sweep to their 2014 season this weekend. North Florida will host the 2014 Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hodges Stadium May 16-17.

"We work long and hard to arrive at this point each season,” Head Coach Ron Grigg said. “Now our individual performances can create a team result. We are ready to go!"

The Fins began their 2014 outdoor season with four individual wins at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge on March 22 and have earned 15 total individual wins thus far while setting six new outdoor records. Senior Svenja Meyer has recorded three records, while Katy Solis, Shanique Walker and Kree Clark each follow with one record.

At the UNF Spring Break Invitational on March 28, Meyer ran 16:55.03 for a new 5,000m time. Meyer followed one week later on April 4 at the historic Pepsi Florida Relays by winning the 3,000m steeplechase in a JU record 10:20.80, besting the university’s previous by 27 seconds.

On April 24 in Philadelphia, Pa. at the historic 120th Penn Relays, both Meyer and Solis destroyed JU’s previous 10k record of 37:25.31 set by Allison Wilfong on May 14, 1994, as Meyer finished sixth of 36 in 34:34.98 and Solis crossed in 36:46.05.

Most recently at the FSU Seminole Twilight meet on May 9, Shanique Walker ran 13.11 in the 100-meter hurdles while Clark tossed 171’ 05” in the discus throw to add to the all-time record book.

Day one of the A-Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships is set to start at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16. Follow live results on Half Mile Timing.
