Welch Recognized by Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In an announcement made earlier today by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), Jacksonville University’s women’s rowing Julianna Welch was selected as a First Team All-Region award winner. She joins 10 others representatives for the Mid-Atlantic region and is ranked among rowers from the United State Naval Academy, Bucknell, Georgetown, Northeastern and Boston.
A key element to the Dolphins’ Varsity Eight success this season, Welch assisted her crew in earning two MAAC Boat of the Week honors and a placement on the All-MAAC Team. She was also a member of the winning V8 boat at the MAAC Championships, helping the Dolphins to a No. 1 finish in the overall standings and their first title in program history.
A sophomore from High Springs, Fla., she received the All-Region nod based of her involvement in JU’s regional finish, coach’s comments and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must also be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
These athletes and the other regional winners will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Jacksonville is scheduled to compete at the NCAA Championship May 31-June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. The Dolphins are making their first-ever appearance at the NCAA regatta.
