Jim Mitchell Named 2003 Regional Assistant Coach of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - JU head crew coach, Jim Mitchell, was named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association 2003 Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, Monday. Mitchell was honored as the top assistant coach in the Mid-Atlantic region, where he served as an assistant with the West Virginia University women's crew team. The Mountaineers placed in the top-five in four races at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships, while the varsity eight finished the season with a Top-25 national ranking.

The six regional recipients of the award will vie for a separate honor, the Division I National Assistant Coach of the Year, to be announced at a later date. Other winners include Pam Mork (University of Notre Dame) in the Central region, Cindy Biles (University of Connecticut) in the New England region, Kara McPhillips (University of Virginia) and Kelly Lynch (Clemson University) in the South region and Eleanor McElvaine (University of Washington) in the West region.

The CRCA Assistant Coach of the Year award is designed to honor a member CRCA assistant coach who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to his/her program, has had a significant impact on the success of his/her program and who has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach.
