Rowers Earn Five Medals at the First Coast Head Race

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU rowing teams opened their 2003-04 season by earning five medals as the Women's Novice 4+ and Men's Novice 8, who had never raced before, earned silver and bronze respectively, while the Women's Championship 8 and the Women's Championship 4+ earned silver at the First Coast Head Race, Saturday on the St. John's River. The Dolphins' second boat in the Women's Championship 4+ also medalled with a third place finish.

The Men's Championship 8 placed fourth, while in the Men's Championship 4+ JU's first boat finished fifth and its second boat placed seventh out of 16 entries.

"We didn't know where we were before this race," said first-year head coach Jim Mitchell. "Now we see what we need to work on this season."

The annual regatta included crews from Auburn, the College of Charleston, Florida State, Florida Tech, the University of Miami and UCF.
