Women's Lightweight 4+ Rows to Victory On the Chattahoochee

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The Women's Lightweight 4+ rowed to a first-place finish in a time of 21:26 and JU's Men's Championship 4+ took fifth spot (18:14), as the Dolphins placed seven boats in the top-10, Saturday at the Head of the Chattahoochee, site of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic rowing course. Sophomore Kate Burke (Northfield, N.J.), sophomore Becky Watt (Ocoee, Fla.), junior Lauren Calhoun (Baltimore, Md.), junior Hannah Bates (Lakeland, Minn.) and sophomore coxswain Cassandra Pohlhammer (Jacksonville) led the Dolphins Women's Lightweight 4+ past second-place Murray State (21:45) and third-place Vanderbilt (22:00) for JU's first gold finish of the season.

The Women's Club 8+ earned a sixth-place finish (18:54), while the Novice Women's 4+ raced to a sixth-place result (22:44) in a field of 41 boats.

"Every boat made big improvements from last week," said head coach Jim Mitchell. "We are happy with our progress against such a tough field. Our hard work is paying dividends."
