Crew Spearheads St. John's River Cleanup

March 18, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The men's and women's crew team spearheaded the St. John's River cleanup, in conjunction with the city of Jacksonville's Clean It Up, Green It Up program, Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Jacksonville University. Joined by students, fellow athletes and local volunteers, the crew team collected over 40 bags of refuse in addition to other large items.

"We had an excellent turnout this afternoon," said head coach Jim Mitchell. "A number of volunteers turned out and the initial feedback was very positive."

The St. John's River cleanup offers student-athletes the chance to take care of the shores that borders Jacksonville University, allowing them to learn about the waterway on which they train and compete all season.

JU competes in the Rollins Invitational on Saturday, March 20 in Winter Park, Fla.
