Crew Combines for Five Golds and Wins the Carl Bock Cup

DELAND, Fla. - The JU men's and women's crew teams combined for five golds and captured the Carl Bock Cup in the Men's Varsity 8+ event at the Petrakis Cup, Saturday in DeLand.
Montia Rice (Folsom, N.J.), Bryan Brown (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), John Weaver (Orlando, Fla.), David Weaver (Orlando, Fla.), Brandon Wilson (Tallahassee, Fla.), Sean Duffey (Margate, N.J.), Matthew Grothaus (West Chester, Pa.), John Hoffman (Orange Park, Fla.) and coxswain Peter DeFrank (Nutley, N.J.) led the Men's Varsity 8+ to a first-place finish and the Carl Bock Cup after rowing to a time of 6:15.5, ahead of second place UCF which clocked in at 6:17.1.
On the women's side, the varsity 8+, comprised of Lauren Calhoun (Baltimore, Md.), Hannah Bates (Lakeland, Minn.), Patti Connolly (Jacksonville/Bishop Kenney), Cynthia Schulze (Jacksonville/Nathan B. Forrest), Amanda Bustos (Dallas, Texas), Lindsey Jackson (Jacksonville/Fletcher), Kate Burke (Northfield, N.J.), Becky Watt (Ocoee, Fla.) and coxswain Audrey Sefton (Cincinnati, Ohio) took gold in a time of 7:37.1.
The other first-place finishes for the Dolphins were in the Men's Varsity 4+, the Men's Novice 4+ and the Men's JV 4+. JU placed a boat second and third in the Women's Varsity 4+, while the Women's Novice 4+ took second place. The Men's Novice 8+ took third place behind Tulane and UCF.
